Technique: end your 360 video with a 360 photo

Image
Here's a simple technique: if you add a 360 photo at the end of your 360 video, your viewers will be able to look around and enjoy your 360 photo after watching your video. I used this technique in a video I took yesterday.   My family and I went skiing, and I took some photos and videos with the Nikon Keymission 360 (reviewed here) .  Here's the video I took: BTW, one part of the video looks a little bit "foggy" -- that's because my Keymission lens got scratched and I haven't bought a replacement lens yet.  I should have bought a lens cap ! My face looks a little foggy because my Keymission lens got scratched. Anyway, I edited the video using Cyberlink ActionDirector (the free 360 video editor included with the Samsung Gear 360 ), but the same can be done with many other 360 video editors including Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra , which has the same 360 video editing capabilities as ActionDirector. In the storyboard, I added the 360 video of us on the lift...

TECHNIQUE: How to make your logo appear in every direction of a 360 video

Image
You can make your logo or watermark appear in every direction of a 360 video, regardless of where the viewer may be facing.  Here's how. Here is a test video illustrating what I mean.  No matter which direction the viewer is facing, my logo appears on the bottom right corner. It looks pretty cool and the best part is that this technique is easy to do in YouTube! 1.  On YouTube, click on your profile on the upper right corner, then select Creator Studio. 2.  On the left panel, click on Channel, and select Branding. 3.  Upload your watermark or logo. 4.  Specify at what point the watermark or logo will appear. That's all!

TECHNIQUE: Erasing the tripod and editing the nadir in a 360 photo or video

Image
photo by Artem Chubaryan One of the challenges of taking 360-degree photos is that the camera captures everything around it, including the legs of the tripod or monopod used to support it.  Erasing the legs or editing the nadir (the bottom of the 360 photosphere) is therefore a typical part of the 360 workflow.  Now you can do it easily, while preserving the original image quality as much as possible, thanks to a Photoshop action by Artem Chubaryan . A sample photo by Artem: Bayfront park star trails - Spherical Image - RICOH THETA The typical process for editing the nadir is to use 360 editing tools such as Flexify or Hugin to move the nadir to the middle of the equirectangular photo, where it is not distorted and can be easily edited.  After editing the nadir, you can then move the nadir back to its original position.  However, Artem found that this process is not lossless, and blurs the original photo slightly.  To preserve the image quality of the...

TECHNIQUE: How to easily resize your 360 logo / watermark

Image
It's easy to shrink or enlarge your logo / watermark for your 360 photo or video.  Here's how. I posted a tutorial for making a logo or watermark for 360 photos or videos here .  Let's say you want to now want to resize the logo for a particular photo, or perhaps create more sizes of your logo that you can later use.   To change the size of the logo, all you have to do is adjust its height, using Photoshop or other image editors: This works for logos of any shape, whether circular, square, or some other shape. The resulting logo becomes larger or smaller in proportion to how much you adjusted the height.  If you decreased the height by 50%, the length and width of the logo (or its diameter for a circular logo) will each shrink by 50%.  Note that a 50% reduction in height makes the logo 1/4th as large as it was before.  Vice-versa if you enlarge the height. Using this technique, you can also adjust the size of the logo to cover the tripod legs (or yo...
