360 rumors

A photographer claims that he dove with his 2017 Samsung Gear 360 12 meters underwater without any kind of underwater case and was able to take photos.... The shooter uses the pseudonym  Aris Tocrate .  According to him, not only did the camera survive, but the photos look excellent, with seamless stitching notwithstanding the refraction of the water. Here's a crop showing the seamless stitching, notwithstanding the water's refraction. He posted two samples.  Here's a screenshot from his other post on the Samsung Gear 360 2017 group. I discussed it with one of my friends and my friend found another post by the same user, showing the exact same photo, but he posted it to the Nikon Keymission 360 Facebook group, also claiming he took the shot without a case: It therefore appears that this is just a prank (1 month and 22 days late I would say).  The truth is that the 2017 Samsung Gear 360 (available here) is water-resistant but NOT waterproof.  If you want to us...

A man playing a horror game on the HTC Vive was so immersed that he ran and smashed his face into a wall, requiring stitches.  Here's the video. If you haven't used a VR headset (a real one -- Cardboard doesn't count), it's hard to understand how real it can feel, as evidenced by many popular VR reaction videos on YouTube.  Here's a video that shows just how intense the experience can be. A man was playing Brookhaven Experiment, a horror shooter (available on Steam for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift ).  At one point, he ran out of ammo just as a mutated creature lunged at him.  Gripped with terror, he instinctively turned around and ran, smashing his face into a wall, and punching holes in the drywall with his face and his knee. Here's the video: The man required stitches but was otherwise fine.  The HTC Vive headset survived as well. The video was posted by u/Stradequit.

One of the first entertainers to embrace 360 video is Conan O' Brien, one of my favorite standup comedians.  Some skits on his Conan talk show on TBS are livestreamed in 360 on the Team Coco YouTube channel using four Nokio OZO cameras .   Past shows can be seen on the Conan360 playlist: If you have the Samsung Gear VR , you can also see them within the Samsung VR app, under the category Conan 360. Check it out!  The Aquaman skit (currently #7) is hilarious!   Warning : NSFW (but you shouldn't be watching VR at work anyway)!
