This week on Immersive Shooter: top recommended 360 cameras, streaming VR, and an affordable AR headset

Image
I just posted an article on Immersive Shooter , one of the best resources for immersive journalists and professionals who produce 360 video and VR content.   If you haven't yet, you should check out Immersive Shooter.  Here are some of the stories that were posted this week: - Robert Hernandez gives his top recommendations for 360 cameras for professionals and for consumers . - Samsung Gear VR can now stream to Chromecast, not just Facebook .  This allows VR to be more social and lets your friends and family get an idea of what you're seeing in Gear VR. - Aryzon is an affordable Cardboard-inspired viewer for AR .   You can still sign up for their Kickstarter here , which has already blown past its funding goal. These and more stories are on Immersive Shooter!  You can understand why I think anyone interested in 360 cameras should bookmark their page, and why we've teamed up !

Housekeeping announcements: 360 camera Facebook discussion group, 360Rumors.com, and 360 Rumors store

Image
Just a few announcements: 1. 360Rumors.com launch 360Rumors.com  is now live!  It features a more polished and more organized interface.  I think the search feature works better as well. I wasn't able to implement redirection so I'll just run the original 360rumors.blogspot.com and the new 360rumors.com in parallel for now, although 360rumors.com will be the primary site and eventually I will stop updating 360rumors.blogspot.com. 2.  Forum for 360 cameras and for 360 Rumors readers: There are a number of Facebook groups for particular 360 cameras or particular brands.  If you want to discuss 360 cameras and are tired of jumping from one group to another, I created a Facebook group to discuss 360 cameras of any type, any brand, cleverly called the 360 Cameras Group.  This is also a forum for readers of 360 Rumors.   Check it out here ! 3.  360 Rumors store is open! If you want to buy a camera or accessory and want to support 360 Rumors, you can che...

PSA: thank you and my apologies for not responding to comments

Image
Hi everyone.  Many of you have been making comments on the blog, and I really appreciate it!  I apologize if I haven't responded to your comments.  Strangely, for some reason I am no longer receiving comment notifications on most of them.  I have around 1,000 posts now and obviously I can't check each one for comments. I will switch back from Google+ to the Blogger comments, which I'm hoping will fix comment notification.  Unfortunately, I think this will also make comments disappear, and for that I sincerely apologize.  Thank you for your understanding and continued support.  Please continue to like, comment on, and share my posts, which helps more people know about our site, which has grown very quickly thanks to you. And pls. note you can always contact me via the 360 Rumors Facebook page (click on the Send Message button). UPDATE : The new (old) comment system working!  I can see all the comments and respond to them.  Thank you for ...

PSA: Ricoh Theta desktop app is not compatible with Adobe AIR v. 24

Image
If you are using the Ricoh Theta desktop app, please do not update your Adobe AIR to version 24.  There is an incompatibility between the Theta app and version 24 of AIR which will prevent you from viewing photos or videos.  Until Ricoh issues a fix for their software, please hold off on updating Adobe AIR to version 24.

PSA: Avoid HTC Vive scams on Craigslist

Image
"Wow. What a deal! An HTC Vive for just $650, compared to the retail price of $799 plus shipping and tax!  The only problem seems to be that it's a long drive away. Hmm I wonder if they would ship it to me?" And that's how the bait for this scam works... If you ask to have it shipped to you, naturally you would need to pay remotely such as via Paypal or credit card. And chances are, you'll never get the item, plus you may have given your credit card number to a scam artist. How do I know it's a scam? Because they don't want to meet in person (yes, I tried contacting this seller).  Here's a similar scam: Again, $700 is a good price for a "barely used" HTC Vive.  Once more, it is in a rural area. In this case, the photo they used is the same as from another legitimate ad: Interestingly, I've only seen this type of scam for the HTC Vive (haven't seen one for Oculus Rift yet), possibly because of the higher price of the Vive.
